Monster Energy Racers Hit Seattle

Coming off of the success that the Monster Energy contingent experienced a week earlier in New Orleans, Louisiana, the teams and racers were confident heading into Seattle, where Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki?s Dean Wilson headed back into action as the Lites West series resumed after a two-month hiatus in Seattle, and Monster Energy Kawasaki?s Ryan Villopoto and Jake Weimer headed out to do battle in the 450cc class.

?

The Seattle event marked the closest that Villopoto has to a ?hometown? race on the Supercross schedule, and the two-time reigning champ went out and dominated his heat race before heading into the main with high expectations. However, a tough start mired him deep in the pack, and an incident on the second lap of the race saw him limp off the track and drop out of his first main event of the year. Prior to Seattle, he had only finished off of the podium twice, and had never finished outside the top five.

?

The team reported his injury is unknown at this point, but that they don?t expect it?s too severe, as he eventually walked off under his own power.

?

Meanwhile, out front, Andrew Short had the lead over Ken Roczen and Villopoto?s Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer.

?

Short led the entire main event over Roczen, and on the final lap Weimer was breathing down both of their necks as he was also under pressure himself from Justin Brayton.

?

Short took the win over Roczen and Weimer, who recorded his fourth podium finish of the season.

?

?To be honest, I was really scared out there,? Weimer said. ?I really don?t like it when supercross tracks get rutted like that. It?s scary. I didn?t grow up riding ruts like this, so to get a podium was pretty good for me.?

?

Weimer also moved into the top five in the series points standings with his third-place finish.

?

In the Lites class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki?s Dean Wilson came into Seattle with a slim points lead over series rival Eli Tomac, and at the start of the main event, the two were glued together in second (Tomac) and third (Wilson) while Ryan Sipes had the lead.

?

Wilson and Tomac went back and forth a few times, and even came together a couple of times, as they battled it out for second, letting Sipes slip away out front. But at about the halfway point, the aggression reached a new level, as Tomac stole the inside from Wilson and the two collided, sending Wilson down to the ground in a heap, right onto his right shoulder. Tomac also bent his shifter in the process and was stuck in third gear for the rest of the race.

?

Wilson got up seventh, and that?s where he would eventually finish, despite his very sore right shoulder, which was in a sling in the pits after the race. We should know more on his condition early in the week as it pertains to the upcoming final two rounds of the Monster Energy/AMA Supercross Series in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

?

Tomac ended up third in the main event and now holds a slim, four-point lead over Wilson with two rounds remaining.
